Publication - Quiet Activism & The New Amateur
This article is about the history of expanded and expanding nature of crafts, through the exploration of activist potential of amateur and domestic crafts. In addition it explores the idea of activism through crafts, DIY craft culture, craftivism, the handmade, the maker movement, womens rights and feminism. The major themes that were articulated in the visual concept for this design was this idea of handmade items and the DIY craft culture as well as the sense of anger from a womens perspective of womens rights not being recognised and feminism. The aim of the design was to reflect the raw emotions these women would feel as well as this idea of handmade with a painted brush type style and imagery in a minimal and bold composition.
